IEEE 1394 Firewire IDE hard drive enclosure overview
The
ieee 1394 firewire 2 bay enclosure for IDE hard drives is an invaluable
resource to increase your system storage capacity, a business
must have. No more difficult than installing a hard drive
into an existing
system
the ieee 1394 firewire dual bay enclosure contains all you
need to mount and install a large capacity 5.25 inch hard drive
in minutes.
Special features include an exceptional enclosure
/ hard drive cooling system to keep your drives running cool and
maintain the
needed level of high performance. The enclosure dimensions
are 13" inches deep X 7" inches wide and includes
the power cord, 6-pin to 6-pin FireWire cable, hard drive
mounting screws, and keys for drive locks.. Includes everything
you
need except the hard drives.
IEEE 1394 Firewire 400 dual bay enclosure features
Features
- Oxford 911 chipset
- Universal AC Input: 100-240
- 1394 FireWire standard compliant.
- Made for
large capacity 5.25 internal IDE drives
- Includes
(2) internal IDE connectors
- Internal
cooling fans in both enclosure and bays
- 2 6-pin external Firewire IEEE 1394 connectors
- PC case like construction
- Screw less bay assembly
|

PC case like construction, the enclosure cover can be
easily removed by removing 3 screws in back. |
About the enclosure bays

Top cover of the bay sliding back. Screw less design
for easy access.
|
The
bays themselves are a screw less design for easy access
to the hard drive compartment. By simply sliding back
and removing
the top cover of the bay, the ribbon and power connectors
are exposed for hard drive assembly.
The bays and hard drives are well ventilated and kept
cool by a small cooling fan within the bays. |
Mounting the drive into the bay
 |
Before
fully mounting the hard drive connect the IDE and Power
connectors to their respective ports. After assembly
is complete, the bay will be placed back into the ieee
1394 firewire 400 enclosure. For the hard drives
to function properly the jumpers should be moved to
the "Cable Select" position. |
 |
Once
all connectors are secure and jumpers in the correct
positions, simply slide the top cover on before sliding
the drive bay back into ieee firewire 400 enclosure. |
 |
Mounting
the hard drive id done in very much the same way as
installing into a PC except it's easier. Just line
up the mounting holes on the bottom and sides of the
bay and secure the hard drive. |
 |
Once
the drive is securely mounted, as with most hot swapping
drives, slide the bay into it open slot in the ieee
1394 firewire 400 enclosure. The IDE connectors will
connect once the bay is installed and the handle of
the bay is closed to lock it in place.
|
Note about enclosure operation
| NOTE: When
operating the enclosure, you'll notice that both
drive lights will simultaneously flash when either
of the drives are active. This is because the enclosure
operates on one bridge board. When your hard drives
are formatted, they should be given individual volume
names and the bays should be labeled as such to reflect
the volume name of then drive. |
IEEE 1394 Firewire 400 dual bay enclosure testimonial
I found the
firewire 400 dual bay enclosure extremely easy to work
with. Mounting the hard drives into the bays took only
minutes and was much easier to work with than disassembling
a PC. Performing the everyday operations of the hard
drives through the ieee 1394 enclosure were the same
as if through my local drive. The enclosure will operate
with large capacity drives of 120 GIG or more and the
drives must be set on cable select to operate properly.
Commercial business's that need hard drive storage
and easy access to it, this is for you. I highly recommend
the ieee 1394 firewire dual bay enclosure as a source
of mass storage transfer, back up and more. |
