Overview

The Firewire 2.5" Travel Kit Enclosure will accommodate a 9.5mm thick hard disk and is powered directly from the 6-pin bus port of the laptop or PC or AC adapter power. If your running Windows ME/2000/XP or Mac OS 8.6 or higher,no driver is needed for operation. Adding a mass storage device can't get any easier.  The kit also includes a convenient leather jacket for the enclosure box and a DC cable for extra power.

All assembly screws are included with the 1394 hard drive enclosure kit. The user's manual, firewire cable, and PS/2 power bypass plug are also included in the kit.

Bus Powered PS2 power bypass plug

PS2 power bypass plug connection.The Portable 2.5 inch Hard Drive Enclosure is powered by a unique PS2 power bypass plug (male receptacle) which connects directly into the PS2 port of your PC or laptop. The opposite side of the PS2 connector is a female receptacle to allow your PS2 mouse to stay connected to your PC or laptop while using the 1394 Firewire hard drive enclosure. At 3 feet in length, the PS2 power bypass plug gives you the flexibility in movement and position of your hard drive enclosure.
Power for the firewire 1394 2.5 inch hard drive enclosure is supplied by this PS2 power bypass plug for Pc's or laptops.

Assembly of hard drive to the Firewire 1394 2.5 inch enclosure
For testing purposes, a 60GB hard drive was used. Assembly of the hard drive to the enclosure is Quick and painless. Drives of up to 80GB can be used with this 1394 firewire hard drive enclosure. Remember to use anti static precautions when assembling any type of computer circuitry.
The circuit within the 1394 Firewire hard drive enclosure is not attached to the enclosure itself until the assembly is complete. Simply slide the circuit board off the support pins to attach the hard drive.
Four screws assemble the the hard drive to the firewire enclosure circuit. Once the hard drive is mounted and screws are tight, the circuit and drive can be placed on the mounting pins for final assembly.
The 1394 Firewire enclosure also assembles with four screws into the support pins. After assembly is complete the rubber feet can be placed over the screw heads. The rubber feet prevent the enclosure case from sliding while in operation. Total assembly time is about 10 minutes.
Once the assembly of the firewire enclosure is complete, Completed assembly of the 1394 firewire enclosure on top of PCall that needs be done is to connect your cables to the 1394 Firewire 2.5 inch hard drive enclosure and to the PC or laptop as seen above. Remembering to connect the PS2 power bypass plug into the PS2 port of you computer, the enclosure will power up and the new storage device will be recognized by your system automatically. This hard drive enclosure was very simply in design and easy to assemble. The LED in front of the enclosure lets you know when your drive is working. The HDD was recognized immediately after it was installed, all that needed to be done after connection was to initialize and format the drive. Data transfer was very quick as if it were an internal drive in my PC.

Overall all this is a great transportation device for files and off site storage solutions, I recommend it to anyone who needs to have a portable storage solution handy at anytime.
