The Prolific chip in this USB converter is housed in a strong molded enclosure designed for use in rugged application areas. USB adds a Windows serial COM port via its connection and can be configured to work with RS-232 peripherals. Plug and Play features allow easy serial port expansion and requires no IRQ, DMA, or I/O port resources. It supports data transfer rates of up to 230k bps. No external power supply is required as the Prolific USB to serial converter takes its power from the USB bus.

The USB to Serial Converter is RoHS compliant and works with Windows 7, Vista 32 / 64-bit as well as XP Home / Pro. Virtual COM port (VCP) drivers cause the USB device to appear as an additional COM port available to the PC.
